I have an old Nandina bush in my yard that I would like to dig up. It is close to 30 years old with good bark. Is this something I can dig in the fall or better to wait until the spring?

Here it is. The bush is 5.5' tall. It has been in the landscape since the house was built in 1989. It will end up as some sort of forest. I should have added something for perspective but the largest trunks are about 1". I am curious to see what it looks like dug up.

I went ahead and dug it today. It was sending out new shoots so I decided to go for it. There were a lot of very fine roots and some good sized ones that are just beneath the surface. I have cut Nandina down before and had them back bud. Hopefully it lives and at worst I will have an interesting plant in a pot. Maybe a gigantic accent plant! Sorry, I didn't have a beer can or lighter for perspective. The pot is about 18" across.
