When is the best time to repot my cotteneaster/ and prune

Have my plant outside for the summer .I think its about 3 to 4 years old. but its in a plastic
pot from the nurseryI got it from.I am told that it is a outdoor plant but needs winter protection
I live in longisland NY

Repot in early spring -- probably March in LI. Prune: Now is fine.
