Hi all,

Its the beginning March here and my Bonsai are starting to bud, especially the dawn redwood.

Question is when do I start my tidying up especially on the redwood. And when can I repot the Chinese elm as the frost has broken the pot it is sitting in.

Really not sure what to do with the Alder yet. That is its first years growth from seed. Waiting to see what those purple buds are they have been their all winter

Tidy up any time of year.
Trim and prune whenever it is needed.
Repot Chinese elm any time of year in warmer areas but better in spring and summer in cooler areas. Closer to bud break is better but weeks either side is also OK. Should be a good time for you if the dawn redwood is budding.
Transferring to a similar sized pot with little root pruning can be done any time of year.
If the alder is only 1 year old it's probably better to allow some more growth to add some trunk thickness. It can be chopped back anywhere and still get good buds so does not really matter how long you let it grow.
