When UP-potting...... do you reduce roots?

Haven't done this before. I want to massively overpot my oak. Like an Anderson flat but pot shaped big plastic.
Oaks don't like root removal and I've always let a good deal stay.
I'm just wanting to let this sucker add bulk and....as a bonus.... not repot for a LONG time.

It will not be proportional as a pot but that's not a concern.

This present pot is pretty damn large but new one will be larger.

I might improve the roots, but not really reduce them.

I do not reduce roots when going to a larger size.
I do try to reareange them, so that I don't have to make too many large cuts when going back to small.
Makes sense. Arranging with the thought in mind of WHERE I will eventually cut back to is also in my plan.

Sort them out, trim any that are bad, or are over-long (like wrapping around the inside of your old pot), but don't universally prune them back. Every time you repot use it as an opportunity to improve the rootage.

There should be plenty to choose from. This is the ROOTS ONLY from 2018 when this supercharged acorn first sprouted some limbs.

That's 5 or 6 feet of jumble. 😄
