LoL! That one is just for your viewing enjoyment. I've got your glaze stuff drying in the sun, those fines are really heavy when moist, but I'll get it to you soon.

Here are a few good ones I found this summer. Nice and pitted, with lots of character. These are from a creek near my house. Great for companion planting and accent. I hope to make a wooden Daiza / piece for the first small one.

I live in a place with no rocks. I have never seen a large stone in Houston that wasn't brought there by humans. So, when making a root over rock bonsai, I have little local material to work with. Therefore I have to ask, where do you guys get your stones? Bonsai nurseries? Online?

How about a drive in the country? There has to be rocks, nice bonsai rocks, somewhere close to you. You can also make some out of cement. The rocks on line are nice ... and expensive as you can see. I am always stopping and picking up a rock or two. Bonsai without a rock ... impossible.

I actually went to Big Bend national park last year (on the Mexican border) and was amazed at the rocks they had there. Obviously I didn't take any as it's a national park, but I could always go 3 or 4 hours further inland to find some. As for my original question, I ended up buying some rocks at an aquarium store.

Fwiw and for anyone interested, these are chunks of pumice from a pyroclastic blast flow from Mt Mazama eruption that formed Crater Lake here in S. Oregon. Pictured is a little over 15lb of stones and it cost $80 to ship from Oregon to Pennsylvania. There's tons available.
