Ok, it is time to repot this little guy come spring. I have three options and I wanted to see what you nuts had to say about it. In september of '08 i bought this at Lowe's as a mounded landscape plant on clearance. The full story can be seen here. Well, without further adieu...

I placed the pots in front of the plant and took some new pics.

I'm going to go with the rectangle. Hoping to see some nice development of your apex, over time, with a little added height.

Nice!

I am going with number 4, a training pot.

Just a bump for those who may have been away over the winter. Perhaps some final thoughts before go time?

It's not ready for a pot, but if you do, make it a little on the big side.

The tree is looking pretty juvinile IMO, branches are long for the trunk etc., do you expect to keep the tree this size or grow it taller and or fatter??

I'm strongly with those who would not put this into a bonsai pot at this point. It is a very nice, but very, very young tree, and needs to fill out more -- to get some "age." It is unlikely to do that well enough in a tiny bonsai pot. Either repot (with extensive root work) into the current large pot, or find a training pot (maybe an azalea pot????) that is wide and shallow that will let it mature with dignity. Maybe put it into a bonsai pot in another 2 yars.
