Just making sure, it’s the only one out of my 20+ JM that has it.

It will go away in a few weeks as the shoots begin to harden. My red leaf maple looks like that every spring. Its the only maple i have that has the fuzz on the new growth too

I feel better now, I had the bonide fungicide out and ready to do battle. 😂

Yes, in all seriousness, none of my JM exhibit that, but other trees on my bench do. Definitely looks like natural growth to me

I noticed the same thing on one of my maples and was wondering the same thing, if it was some kind of fungus or natural

Trichomes is the right term for these kind of hairs. They have a bunch of functions but most of it boils down to "protection".
