White pine

I have a shohin white pine, the needles are dropping. The tree is still alive will it back bud? If so how do I do that.

Japanese white pine are very difficult to get to back bud. I have yet to see it on any of mine. If needles are dropping, the tree is stressed or in decline. Sharing a pic would be helpful for the most experienced folks here to provide input.

Not looking too happy is it!

Was it pruned, repotted and wired all at once?

Are the roots too wet maybe? Just wondering about the drainage on that pot or the inner/lower soil type.

I’ve had some annoyed JWP drop bunches of needles when stressed in the past but sometimes the existing buds then burst and they pulled through so fingers crossed.

It could be a fungus. Spray with a copper based fungicide. In the picture, the buds look like they’re still alive. Just let them grow.

where are you located? How long have you had it? Where did you get it? Have you done anything to it since you’ve owned it?
