Bought a dawn redwood rainforest a few weeks ago from a bonsai website and noticed the past few days its started to have white stuff and the base of the trees, ill add a photo. Its goes away when i spray the tree but comes back the next morning. I water the tree every morning until i see the water coming through the hole in the pot. So im guessing its getting watered enough? Should i maybe use different soil ? I have a mixture of Kiryzuna and Pumice but read thats for pine and juniper only ?Also i keep my outdoor bonsai under a glass roof but its still outdoor. Is this ok ? Didn’t want them fully outdoor as i live in Scotland and the weathers quite cold but we have been having a heat wave past few weeks.

Welcome to the site!

If you are talking about the white stuff that is showing up at the base of your tree in your first photo, those are minerals that are precipitating out of your water. They are usually not harmful to the tree, but they could be a sign that your water is hard and/or alkaline. You should test your water if you don't know. Also, your bonsai soil looks very dark and organic - like a peat bog. Pumice and Kiryuzuna are great for dawn redwoods... but I don't see any in your soil(?) You really want your soil to look like gravel and not peat; when you water your tree the water should instantly drain into the soil and through the bottom of your soil, leaving wet (but not waterlogged) soil behind.

Finally, indirect (but bright) sun should be fine you your dawn redwood, as long as your back patio doesn't face north, leaving your tree in complete shade.

should i maybe just re soil using the mixture of Kiryzuna and Pumice i already have ?

Re potted the redwood. I though i was going to break the pot, there was so many roots and they were really crammed into the pot. Cut away maybe 1/3 of the roots and re potted using the mixture of Kiryzuna and Pumice and watered with filtered water.

summer root pruning is not the best choice for redwoods. See my post. Best of luck 🤞🏼

Hallo all! Same here, some suggestions? I’m using distilled water and I tested it it’s 0.012. I also have some spots on the leaves…Some clue?
The overall status of the plant seems fine. It grows a lot during last month.

Your Dawn Redwood looks healthy to me, as mentioned above you're seeing minerals from your water which aren't normally harmful. The spots on the leaves are mostly likely from a high mineral content, which are generally calcium and magnesium.
