Why the recent rash of sideways pictures?

It seems like recently half the posts I look at have pics that are loaded sideways. It's really distracting, so I usually pass these by. I've never had an issue with that myself, but it seems to be rampant lately. Can we help these posters get the pics vertical?

There is a post about it some where here, but until the next update, if you use the little attach icon instead of the "Attach Files" button the images seem to post correctly.
I also ran into this issue.

Please help!
When I try the “Attach files” it posts sideways… if I “drop image” it is typically too large of a file…

Sideways coral bark maple on fire this fall.

Their algorithm doesn’t like tall photos. Before you post, crop out the bottom and top which is not part of what you are photographing so it’s more square. Then it should post correctly. That works for me.

Still see lots of sideways pics. Hey folks, if pictures you post show up sideways, please delete them, resize or crop, and try again. I may just be old and cranky, but I'm not going to try to interpret sideways pics. I'm betting many like me will just pass by your post.

I'm not having this issue on PC. This probably is not so easy if you are using your phone.

I click the "Insert Image" button. It then shows a dotted box. I drag my photo into the box and there it is with no issues.

From @Bonsai Nut :
"Using the "insert image" button, or dragging and dropping an image into your post from your desktop, will maintain the EXIF metadata tag and the image will be oriented correctly)."

No issue on MAC or IOS either if you use the "Insert Image" Icon at the top, only if you use the "Attach Files" button below.

I have only ever done screenshot snips (Shift+windows key+s) and you just ctrl+v past the image and it works 100% and is super fast.

I usually do “attach files” and anything rectangular gets turned sideways. I usually crop everything square to avoid it.

@Bonsai Nut

I would quite like to see this fixed. While the workarounds are functional, I would expect a more user friendly behavior.

So would I. The last software official release was July, 2025, and they tend to release updates every 5-6 months, so we are due. They do not post "expected release dates" for any of their software products.

I just posted two pictures and they were sideways. I did not do that on purpose.

I don't think people are doing it on purpose, but once you see they're sideways you can remove them, crop and try again. I'm told pics that are much taller than wide often get posted sideways. If you leave them sideways many will just ignore them.

I thought it was the photo height, but after reading what @bonsainut said about the photo losing its alignment carrier now I just select crop, change the height a millimeter and save. Apparently that gives it a new alignment tag and it loads properly.

Using the “insert image” instead of “attach files” is soooo much slower to upload photos, and you can only do one at a time! I’ve just tried to post some photos after a few weeks break and had the sideways photos issue so did what was suggested in this thread and it’s a pain. I almost don’t want to post photos until it’s fixed 😢

Sounds like too much work, honestly. O'll post and whatever happens, happens

It had never happened to me before, but the last one turned sideways. I did not know the fix but now I do.
