This is the T-shaped “root” system I encountered. More like a raft, I suppose.z

Yeah. The neighbor had pulled it out of the ground with this T shaped thing at the base. He was proud because he saved some “roots” for me :)

Hopefully you get a nice slow, easy transition into winter. Trees do a lot of root growing in the fall, using the branches they made during the summer. I definitely would NOT attempt to view the root system right now though, or even in the spring. I like it. For a freebie that's pretty darn nice
