Received a JM 'Arakawa' a week or so ago. Probably 24" tall.

I had a long branchless apex, so I cut it just above the highest branch. The cutting does have 8-9 nodes along its 14"s.

I cut it in half so I ended up with (2) 7" sections. Soaked them in a 5x Dip-n-grow solution for 5 min, then put them in soil mix.

Think they'll throw roots?

Didn't want to try an airlayer, as the apex didn't have much potential.

For me it is a 50-50.
I think I would have done the airlayer. Even roots with a node will bring you material of a species which is fairly rare.

My late season hardwood cuttings (late winter) of JM cuttings have always failed... I've tried with dormant buds on them, to buds just starting to pop...

You would think keeping them on the tree longer would help... But I guess cutting them in fall and somehow them growing a callus is the key??? I don't really know...
