Collected this in early march, looks like its gonna make it. However for shohin height im thinking i should have chopped lower. Thiughts now that its already leafing out?

You probably want to let it recover for the rest of this year, maybe wire these two branches, one for your first branch then the other for the leader then chop back to the red next season... nice find!

Nice! Thanks! I appreciate the visual. Was clearing out an overgrown flower garden in the depths of my backyard a bunch of these had been hacked back significantly two or three times over the years. Which is where i’m guessing the initial bend came from. These guys grow like weeds down here!

i see it now though. Top third needs chopped to keep the taper going. Ill let if recover and go for it next year!
