A few samples of the material being exhibited right now at the Winter Silhouette show. It was a great time for me and my son who is getting into bonsai little by little.

Enjoy!

Trident Maple by Lindsay Shiba from Mt. Fuji Nursery in Upland CA. This Trident was by far my favorite and a very amazing piece of material.

I was lucky enough to take a promising Bougainvillea for a ridiculous price!!! next time I should take more cash!

Looks like the west coast is hopping with some really great material. Love the twisty pom, and the ancient pom of Robert Pressler... A winter silhouette show would be the one show I would most like to see in person.
Thanks for taking the time to post these.

That cascade trident maple by Shiba is incredibly innovative. Never seen something like that before. I wish I saw that tree in person.

I think that Lindsey Shiba is the most underrated bonsai artist here on the west coast. I am not sure that people realize how many magnificent trees he has, and some of them quite off the beaten path.

That cascade trident maple by Shiba....

I think you got confused Attila, that cascade its a Pomegranate by Elliot Farkas, the following tree is the Trident by Lindsay.

Last summer we got a workshop with Lindsay at Kofu Kai, I was impressed by his talent and vision of future styles. He was helping around 8 different members, all with different kind of materials, from Cali Juni, Chinese Elms, a giant Boxwood by Lee Anthony to a "nana Juni" he even helped Lois Hutchinson refine her Chinese Elm that you can see on the photos above. Lindsay nursery its one of my top places to get some decent material without having to sell an arm or leg... :p

I enjoyed the photos alonsou.

It looks like it was a great show.

Thanks for sharing.

Paul

Yep, I was referring to the pomegranate.
My comment about Shiba still stands, but the context was ruined, since I expected the pomegranate to belong to Lindsay.

Anyway, the interesting part of that pomegranate is that it is not twisted, in the traditional sense. There are a number of pomegranate twigs, woven and partially fused together, giving the impression of twisting. Very smart and well done.

By the way, I just looked up Lindsay's nursery (Mt Fuji, Upland, CA) - I've never visited it, so I'll probably do it this coming weekend.

Wow you guys out there have more trees than those funny juni things from the mountains??:o

Some nice trees for sure, could that Pom be an exposed root style?

, could that Pom be an exposed root style?

Great catch Bill, at first sight, it looks like multiple trunks squished together, but then if I look at the very end of the cascade, they all merge into one. So you may be right, those "trunks" are actually just exposed roots. What a great idea, creating such an exciting cascade from a boring material.

I have seen similar things done with pyracantha and figs.... but a pom.... thats just super clever :) ....looks fantastic too... as do all the trees....

I keep forgetting to do this style. Especially with young-is trees that have faulty nebari, it's a perfect choice.
Well, it's the end of January, and here in So California, this is the beginning of the re-potting season. I'll make sure to start at least a few, this time, since I have hundreds of trees to choose from. I am also tempted to do this with some young pines.
