I got my first wisteria this spring to start on its bonsai journey. I thought these guys only bloom early spring. This pic is from today. I will repost when in full bloom. Any thoughts?

First off...CONGRATS!

With my researching wisteria...there are several varieties that are native to the states that tend to bloom later than their Asian cousins. (Something I read on one of the many sites I researched) Texas,Kentucky,American and I believe one other are varieties that are native to the United States. Some with longer racemes than others. American being I think the smallest producing racemes.

Though...I would imagine how one wintered it also factors in...not saying it can't be an Asian cousin to our native varieties. Not to that point of knowledge yet.

I will definitely be watching to see you post updates of this ones racemes opening up to full bloom. ;)

Thanks for sharing.

We Will see when it finally fully opens.

Plants often do not read the same books... Honest though some cultivars bloom later and longer then others. Any chance I can see a picture when fully bloomed? Might be able to help ID it ;)

It seems that it is fixing to bloom all over. The first bloom was about 6 inches long., but the flowers quickly started to fall off. I will try to get some pics of the ones that are now starting to develop. I have just let this thing grow unchecked this year to grow the trunk. It is crazy big with 5-6 foot long branches at this point. Grows like a weed.

I had the same thing happen with a big, old wisteria I recovered from a land clearing project last year. Only a single bloom, but in July versus the normal March timeframe we see them bloom in around here.

my only landscape wisteria is showing signs of small purple racemes now too. My containerized wisteria, however, apparently has not gotten the memo that it is supposed to SHOW COLOR DAMMIT!

OK, I'm back now.
