for new boards for my scrolls. finally settled on 3 new ones.

1. for new years-a placid sea with red rising sun.
2. kite(s) with minimum clouds
3 hotaru-(lightening bugs) good sized one on a bending grass stalk with darkening sky and the glow of the bugs in the air showing off their lights.

I feed my ideas to the artist, she sends me emails back with "roughs", I make my request for change and eventually we get one completed. then it's on to the next one.

When i first worked with her I tried to stay in just balck and white. then I went to very little color and muted. I think this bunch, especial the bugs and kite will be strong bright colors.
Smoke suggested I keep my rising sun muted which i will do.

This is a smaller scroll but I seem to use it alot in my alcove display. the borads are 3 inches wide by 14 inches long. The scroll itself is 24 inches long and 7 inches wide.

It'll be awhile before she can get me into rotation of projects but I'll post our progress just for fun :)

I think you forgot to attach the pics. ;) Looking forward seeing them.

quess i didn't make myself very clear, hence your suggestion that I'd forgotten to attach some pics. truth is nothing has been done artist wise other than to accept the job, and to know the basic concepts of what I'd like. I thought it might be fun to have others share in the experience of concept thru finish. Maybe you'd have preferred I saved it all up and did the whole thing at once. I just thought it might be more realistic to do it slowly over the normal time it would take to accomplish the process.

Bottom line, as soon as i have something pic wise to post i most certainly will :)

FWIW, I like the hotaru scroll idea. I have one that is a favorite
Not to hijack the thread, but it might give someone an idea of what might "work"

I love it! thanks for posting your scroll. Hotaru has several reasons for me to be interested in.
1. there was a very famous Koi that won national show prizes with that name. ( I have a daughter)
2. one of my favorite contemporary songs sung by Chihiro Onitsuka is named hotaru. If you like you can dial her name and name of song on U-tube and hear it. It's from her ablum "dorothy".

having a villiage to share with is awesome! :)

my artist finally got finished with projects ahead of me so we're now in contact with ideas/colors etc. So I Imagine in a few days I may start seeing some "roughs" :)

Looking forward to seeing what they come up with. Interesting thread after all the display lessons Al has posted.

Well, we got underway on the kites and i had 4 boards to chose from. Unfortunately, for some reason when I clicked on her scanned artwork, I could not copy it to be able to post here. :( So I may have to work thru them all and then take poessession and photo myself.
I really had hoped to share the process.

the kite board has come together nicely and the work proceeds now to the lightening bug. I'm very happy with the kites and will take a proper picture when I have my hands on it. The lightening bug one has been quite a challenge to get the look I want. It may take awhile.

both of these are for my smaller scroll and will have color. Formal sumi-e work where just black and shades of gray (traditional) is a project under way with another artist. her work is for my bigger scroll and formal tokonoma. i took a picture of a young male deer that visited my back yard this spring and asked her to make me a copy of him. Here's the pic i sent her

Friday, I meet with my artist working on the kites and fireflies to pick up the art work. I'll bring it home and take some pics to share. I'm sorry I couldn't get her different pieces to be able to copy to pass along to you. The kites we worked up maybe back and forth a half dozen times. The fireflies twice that. hardest was getting the dark night sky and yellow glows of light.

well, here is the final work. the kites i see as something to use in the scroll for spring and the fireflies as something for late summer. ( we don't have them here on the west coast but they do in Ohio where i was raised and in japan. :) The close ups of the main subject is nice but don't miss the fireflies in the darkened skies on the full length shots. 3 little circles of light :)

I have another bigger board to collect Tuesday from another artist to use on my formal tokonoma. It's the one I request a stagg to be done. I'm anxious to see it and will have a photo tuesday afternoon...

Thanks for sharing, looking forward to your next picture. I like the firefly one the best myself.
