My friend Mayhaw grove has a good size Mayhaw (3.5" caliper 18 ft tall) that was been knocked down by hurricane Laura. It is now leaning at just 15 degree from the ground. The branches on the top side has already grown to be vertical. It is almost a raft at the moment. It will be removed soon. Should I collect it? If so, what do I do? There is quite a bit of damage right at the base where the wind broke the tree trunk. Next week when I get out there I might take a picture.

It’s dead straight and does not appear to have much character although that is hard to judge without looking at the base. I wouldn’t bother.

Dug it up during lunch today as part of my on going effort to thin out the grove. Good looking base. It will not be a raft however. I will develop it as a regular tree. Pictures to come later.
