Due to incorrect seeds, I grew these thinking they were Bristlecone pines. Here is that thread, which included a mix of Bristlecones and Austrian Black pines.

Summer 2025: "Candles" grew in since spring.

Growth has exploded in the last year and it's now several times larger than it was a year ago.

The 2nd node of branches from the bottom is really starting to swell into a knob. There are 2 larger branches, one smaller (upper left), and several buds all at that one spot.

Would I be better off cutting all but one branch from that location this fall, or would you continue to let it grow? It looks worse in person than in the pic.

I have a bunch like that, they grow all around my yard from the ABPs across the street. I dig them up every Spring and experiment with them.
If it wasn't for the big knot i would cut above the 2nd branch on the left but in reality I would cut on an angle above the left bottom branch to remove that lump leaving just that branch. I have done it in Spring and early summer without issue and they basically respond like JBPs.

This tree grew quite a bit this year! It's probably put on at least 6" of new growth on top since this time last year. The trunk is noticeably thicker too.

In a month or so, I might put a bit of wire on it and remove a couple branches that are causing bulges on the trunk.
