Went hiking at the Rio Grande Gourge. Took some great pics of specimen sage.

Would have loved to see this magnificent specimen in bloom. Even in death it is still awe inspiring.

Not sure which one you are referring to..but I just hope that I can provide the best possible care & future success for what I collected. Anything beyond that is lagniappe.

Very cool. My wife is from Taos and we are there often. I’ve been wanting/meaning to dig several sage for sometime now. Their is an insane amount EVERYWHERE. And so many look like instabonsai. Let us know how they like pot culture as I know so many are growing in either heavily sandy soil or thick clay.

FYI, if your ever in the area again. About 35 mins northwest of Taos is a place called hopewell lake. They have stunted Spruce and Doug fir growing all over the place and it’s easy to obtain a wilding permit in New Mexico.

Yes..as far the eye can see..EVERYWHERE! I always collect some of the original soil..but I'm using a med pumace mix for extra drainage on these. I collected a very small tester sage with only the original sandy soil. It held water for way too long in the pot & took a couple of hours to completely drain. I'm curious how well it drains naturally versus in a pot. I know being on an angle or elevation probably helps, but there are plenty of flat spots out here as well. I'm not familiar with how much rain this area gets either which is another critical factor. Anyway, thanks for the info & I'll be updating the success or failure of the collected.
