anyone know some good spots for yamadori hunting within an hour or two of los Angeles?

Go to calscape.org/ and input the tree you want (junipers are the master race of trees so you better put juniperus) and then go to google maps and plot your journey.

I would recommend Tehachapi mountain range. Just go for a hike on the pacific crest trail and veer off into the wilderness.

Obvious answer here. Join one of the many local LA bonsai clubs and meet people in the area with experience and spots. No one is going to give away their collecting spots online. Benefits of going with locals with experience is access to the knowledge needed to collect and execute the difficult aftercare need to get yourself an epic CA juniper!
