Great turn out for the Yamaki Pine birthday at the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum. A big crowd for the ceremony including the Japanese ambassador. Have never seen this many people at the museum. Guy Guidry and Chase Rosade reunion too. 😁

I would like to see video of the speeches and presentation if it becomes available.

Way cool! Looks like the pine is back there in one of the images. Did you happen to take one that’s ā€œpostable?ā€ šŸ˜‰

Cheers

Not the pine in the back. The Yamaki pine is inside the Japanese pavilion walls behind the speaker. It is three times the size of the pine in the background and requires a forklift to move. There isn't enough room in the pavilion for the speakers, audience, chairs, etc. Below is a pic of the Yamaki pine. BTW the black pine in the photo was a gift from the King of Morocco to Nancy Reagan in 1982. The King was apparently a big bonsai fan and bought a great many trees from Japanese nurseries. This is one of a few in the collection from him.

I saw it in person in 2005 during the BCI World Bonsai Symposium when I was 19. You don't realize how big it is until you see it in person.

Thank you!

Gonna ask the Curator where we volunteer weekly, more about the tree. He was the Assistant Curator at the National back in the day, so he has lots of back room knowledge about those trees.

Cheers
