I just picked up (3) Yaupon Holly shrubs from someone that was redoing their landscaping. I will post some pictures shortly. They are each about 15 years old and are about 4 feet tall. I just repotted them with just some potting soil and put them in 7 gallon nursery pots. Is it too late in the year to Chop the trunk down to about 12" from the base? The guy pulled them up and I just wanted to quickly get them back in some soil.

I am here in Austin, TX.

Thank you!

If you just did all this, I’d say there’s time. But you’ve got to get them out of the potting soil. Use a well draining substrate and DONT cut any of the roots that were dug, unless it’s a large root with no connecting feeder roots. chop them back quite a bit shorter as well. search this site for tips on trunk chops. But if your going to do this, do it ASAP. Like now.

Great. You’ll probably end up needin to chop quite a bit lower but I would let these bud out like crazy at this point to choose a new leader on each.
