This elm was repotted in early spring (late feb.) and has been healthily growing. I noticed some red mites a few days ago and sprayed with insecticidal soap. Haven't seen any bugs, but this morning I noticed some yellowing leaves. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
Thanks.
Nick.

Damage from the mites kicking in? What kind of insecticide did you use? Soap's usually harmless but....

The brand name is "Safer" It is "insect killing soap, with seaweed extract"
The only trees I've ever had mites in are Junipers, and they react differently, so I wasn't quite sure if this was mite damage or not. Thanks for the reply.

Safer's is good stuff so I doubt that's the problem.

My humble opinion would be that your tree is lacking something.
Fertilizer, sunlight, maybe even iron.

update

Steve: No it lost its leaves in winter.

This tree is doing fine...lots of new growth.

It had gotten too much water.

Mine have done the very same thing. Although they have new growth coming on now.
I seem to have heard that elms sometimes have two growing seasons from time to time.
At least thats what I'm counting on. Good luck.

i had this with my first ulmus.
when you even think about touching the yellow leaves they fall off even when you're only thinking of touching one.

i had this with my ulmus coz i was keeping it inside.
after that i put it outside and never had those yellow leaves again except for 1 yellow leave each month.

maybe a lack of sunlight and aircirculation is causing your problem.
