Smooth, thin bark which showed more color differentiation to the eye. Leaves on the ground were maple and elm but there were some large heart shaped or triangular leaves with I think serated edges. I brought one home but can't find it...
There are a few growing together near a pond in the reclaimed strip mine land.
The larger one is to show the bark better.
Thanks for your time!IMG_20180311_154547735.jpgIMG_20180311_154418179.jpgIMG_20180311_154430440.jpg

That does look like the leaf I lost on the way home. I didn't consider that as I know them to have rough thick bark, now is read they have thin bark when young.
Thanks!

>>>The bark of Cottonwood is smooth to lightly fissured and silvery white when young, but quickly changes to a brownish gray with maturity, developing very deep fissures between the rounded to flattened vertical ridges

I was looking for paperbark birch. @Cable

But the leaves I found didn't look like it. Bear in mind there were a lot of different leaves around the trees. I only didn't recognize the heart shaped ones as opposed to the maple and elm. shrug
Thanks

I could have confused the leaves dead around I thought were elm with birch...
I did find the big ol leaf in the jeep which looks like Cottonwood. Just don't know which leaves came from which trees.
Thanks for playing guys:) Appreciate it.
