You know about removing older needles to get backbudding along branches?

I got it up on the bench and cleaned it up a bit removing most loose old leaves w/out getting too aggressive. It's looking pretty happy I believe. If it ever quits raining here I'm going to start feeding heavy w/ @Leo in N E Illinois new ferts.
I think some wire won't hurt it later this year per your suggestions.

Took off the wire and cleaned up a bit. Loaded w/buds this year:)
Looking forward to being able to work on this one a bit harder this year finally.

Not a great pic. Lots of back budding all over and happy looking this season. Put some wire on but didn't trim anything. Made an attempt at an approach graft from a long branch lower into the live vein. We'll see how that works out.
Plan is to cut back and better set the structure next year. I think it's ready.
