4 year old JBP, super vigorous and otherwise appears healthy. What are these purplish things at the end of the largest 2 candles?

The purplish things are female cones.
Male cones are smaller and grow at the base of the new candles to release pollen in late spring. No male cones means no viable seed.
My potted pines rarely produce viable seed, probably because of pollination problems with few female cones up high and males below. I have seen others report that they do get some seed from potted trees.
JBP cones mature in fall but take around 18 months to grow and ripen so these won't be ready until late next year. You'll need to decide if you can delay pruning that long without spoiling the tree's structure.
