Hello guys,
I recently felt a need to do stuffs to my trees but instead of trying to provoke my existing trees further, I stumbled upon a relatively cheap zelkova serrata from a local nursery online and took the risk on it.

It arrived very twiggy but I felt the trunk was decent sized, tried to look a little deeper to see the nebari but perhaps I will wait till spring to discover what lies beneath!
The first image shows what I received, and the next two images shows a quick prune of branches growing in weird angles or from multiple branches from the same point.

I was also wondering if I should prune the thick branch near the apex circled in red in the last image.?

What style do you have in mind? I assume not a broom since you’re pulling some of the branches down so they’re more horizontal.
