Evolution of Mirai Live

Have not had a chance to check but I thought he said that the app was going to be available starting yesterday. Either way, I plan on staying on the Pro tier until I see that I get nothing out of it. And knowing Mirai content and the direction Ryan is taking it it will be a long time before I reach that state.
I agree - I’m looking forward to what they have in store. The only criticism is the lack of communication - Ryan noted release tomorrow barring any hiccups. I totally get things happen but it would have been nice to get an email saying the release has been delayed.

That said, this is a good exercise in patience

I am confused….I thought he said multiple times that the app would not be an additional fee?

But now it looks like you have to pay separately for the app and for access to the video library?

I don’t get it….

Wow, theres a tree cap even for pro level. Unsubscribe.
Yes, that's the one thing I'm confused about. Ryan said on the stream that there would be no cap, so either he was being misleading or he wasn't aware of the backend costs until after the stream and they were relayed to him. The caps are too small for both levels with how they are being presented on the website. 20 or 25 should be for the standard and the pro should be double before the additional "storage" would be required.

I thought I heard him say that as well. I just finished cancelling my sub, so doesnt matter to me now though.

No way I’m paying even 18 bucks a month for an app that tells me what I can see just by looking at my trees for free.

💯 That part of the app seems like a glorified photo album + calendar reminders. Amazon S3 storage is pennies for unrestricted storage any person would be using It doesn't seem like there's any syncing between different devices, so these would be picture files living on your phone/iPad so they're not even incurring storage costs...

Yeah, the messaging in the stream was that it would not be a money grab, but increasingly it seems like the messaging is at odds with reality. I'm willing to give it a try for a month or two, but they will have to impress me to keep me subscribed for the long run.

Maybe someone is willing to do a comparison with one oscar & bjorn have put together?
I’ve tried this app; the reminders are incredibly bare bones and seem to just be all set to the same day for every tree. The genus differences are minor, and there’s not really much information on WHY to do things. Repot on March 23, not “start looking for these signs to repot”.

The learning section is basically just a mobile version of the Bonsai Empire free articles. These two apps are playing very different ballgames, and are priced accordingly.

$18/month is not a small fee to sneeze at. I think the app sounds like it has a lot to offer. I was impressed with its functionality and the offerings, links to species specific videos and consice videos specific to the techniques that are recommended by the calendar. That being said… My apprehension the whole time with the app was the cost. Is this going to cost more than the subscription, a separate fee or will rate be increased. Last week’s steam at first put these worries at ease. Then the questions came in through the chat regarding the different subscription levels. It initially sounded like it wouldn’t be that drastic. Maybe more pictures for the Pro members. Then I saw the member level break down for the app. Five trees and what looks like beginner level videos and no photos… that’s disappointing. I’m still going to try it and go in with a hopeful and optimistic mind. I’ll have to pick my top five trees that require extra yearly maintenance. There’s no denying what I’ve learned through my 3-4 year standard membership. I’ve paid a lot to be a standard member and I’ve learned a lot. It’s going to take a lot to bump up to the Pro membership level. We will see

Yep, I'm definitely bummed with the highly limited app at the standard level. I will stay onboard to try it out, as well as have access to the library. I am cautiously optimistic that content will continue to be released, but it seems that the standard tier might be a little bit worse than it was in the old world. I agree that it would take something compelling to get me to the pro membership, and for a beginner like myself, a good care calendar is very compelling--but I'm not holding my breath.

Is there any indication that Mirai Mobile is not included with the current subscription levels?

The pricing graphic on live.bonsaimirai.com seems to say that Mirai Mobile and Mirai Live are included in the same purchase price, but the live.bonsaimirai.com/pricing page does not reference Mirai Mobile at all

We'll wait for confirmation, but that's how I read it... that the mobile functionality will be included as part of your (regular) subscription.

Yes, apologies if my previous post with the differences between tiers was unclear. I didn't include the Mirai Live acess details, as they seem to be unchanged. Ryan has emphasized several times that the app and Mirai Live are a bundle.

I think what people are disappointed by is the limitations of the app at BOTH tiers. I've gotta say, 25 trees for $360 per year is pretty lame...

As stating above, Ryan did specify that the app was a "free" service added to the tiers. So if you have a Mirai subscription, the only change is really the deletion of the live streams and the addition of the app. So I don't really understand why people are getting so worked up about it. I can see this affecting someone if they were one of the ones that stalked the live streams and asked 20 questions every Tuesday. But in the case of a lot of members that didn't attend the live streams but watched them afterwards, this is no issue at all.

So, same price on both tiers as far as I can tell, almost the same access with the difference of the Academy, which I still have no idea what it entails and the app.

I don't see that as an issue, as the app is provided at the same price they were paying before for the membership. Minus the live steams. I rather have an app limited to 25 trees than the live streams, I'm sure there will still be some feature content alike the streams.

Interesting viewpoint. I disagree completely, but glad there are people that are still happy.

Having worked in software for years the cost of storing pictures like this is infinitesimal, same for storing your database entries of your updates. A cap like that is a pricing decision.
