Can anyone recommend a good azalea for zone 5 or 6? I had a beautiful one I dug from my yard that was doing fine in the ground and had developed a great trunk and nebari, but it died the first winter after I dug it. (it was kept in an unheated detached garage.)

I am surprised it died. I live in NJ, and placed mine in n unheated greenhouse...out of the wind. Did you let it dry out??

hmmm, possibly... I watered maybe once every 4 weeks I think.

You need to water them if you drag them in. My evergreen azalea stay outside on the ground in the pot with wind protection against a fence or the house and do fine. In general all most all Azalea will die if left to dry out. The indoor types especially need to be constantly damp but not wet.
