Hey guys,

Just picked up a sweet ilex for $10. Any suggestions on chopping for a new trunk line are welcome!

Sweet Winterberry, any idea what variety? I really like the curves in the trunk right now. Maybe chop the trunk where the low branch is to create a new leader and get some taper, but I really like the movement up to the fork so maybe you can cut one branch at the top.

I have a couple 'Red Sprites' I got last year. One was multi-trunked and I chopped really low, the other I haven't done anything with.

I like yours a lot, good luck!

Not sure what zone you're in, but it may need some protection from your winters.

I'm in zone 5a and I'm overwintering in my garage. I agree with you about eliminating one of the leaders at the fork, and I'll post a virt of where I'm thinking of going soon
