This is a rough material I bought in Japan. What I liked about it is the roots feature. I know it could have been better but that is all I could find.
The trunk is not thick, but in this style the roots are the ones that are considered as part of the trunk, and create the illusion of taper . I still want to thicken the trunk somewhat, but not too much. It is a shohin sized tree and it is a young trident.
What I noticed in Japan is that the same variety/cultivar trident have different size leaf. Some have naturally smaller leaves and those are selected mostly for bonsai culture.
I have tridents with 0.5mm leaves.

this is the other side before trimming

Lots of branches to select from, and leave some as sacrifice branches to thicken the trunk and heal some of the scars.

Selected some of the branches That I would like to keep, and trimmed the ones I will not need back. Did not trim yet the branches I would like to keep since I would like to thicken them before drastically reducing them.

The cuts you see were there when I bought it. This is the future leader, but is too long for my taste, so ones it thickens it will have to be chopped low.
notice the scar bellow the leader, it had a dry stub at the end, which I ground to live callus, and sealed.

I am hoping to achieve something like this:

Which side you like best for a front?
Any comments and advise will be appreciated.

I like the 1st pic....just because the root looks better from that side. On the other side, the biggest root throws the image off for me.

Are you willing to wire and bend the roots? As it is, they are a bit too straight. Just something for you to consider.

I agree with you. I like the first better too. I have never wired a root this hard . Not too sure if it will be possible. But I was planning to wire the tiny root, to expend the spread of the roots during repot.
