Hi Folks,

I trunk chopped my two Chinese Elms over the winter and only one of them has started to bud/leaf out this spring. The first 3 photos show the tree that hasn’t leaked out or budded even though when I lightly scratch the bark it’s vibrant green under the bark.

The fourth photo shows the other tree with leaves popping out everywhere.

Is there a way to encourage the leafless one to bud? I haven’t fed either tree yet, should I be feeding it something like Blloom?

I’m afraid I may have shocked it too much with the trunk chop. Will it survive?

Thanks,

Bobby

Give it some more time. It's green so all is gooof so far. Do not feed and check your watering. No leaves = little water uptake.

That was the wrong time.
Chop them as buds are swelling, just before they open.
I just chopped a couple last week, they're already showing green around the chop and buds are popping out the sides.
