Japanese Larch

Now that's some beautiful foliage! ... and those cones look like little cabbage heads :p

Ever get the urge to go and pick off all that loose bark?

The cones are sharp! They suit the tree well as its beautiful. The cones reminded me at first glance of the chicks from the mother hen and chicks plant, the Jovibarba globifera plant.

Next to an old pine, I think larch have some of the best bark.

all the time ... its a tough urge to fight too

Sounds like something akin to the impulse to jump from heights that climbers often feel :p So far, I can only find people admitting to it online here..

Such a gorgeous tree. Ever since I saw this back in April I've been enamored with Larch. Now if I could just find one for my collection.

Call Telperion Farms in Mehama OR... they ship... it wouldn't be cheap to ship, but their larches are worth the effort. Their price points for great trunks which have had BEAUTIFULLY managed root systems is exceedingly fair. Somewhere in the $200-300 range I think. If you are serious about wanting a lovely one... that's not a bad route to take.

I think the thing I love most about larch is that all year long, they are a continual evolution in the image. There's always great anticipation in spring as the buds swell and get bright and golden only to become that beautiful spring green... then even in fall the golden color is amazing. It's winter image is how you know what you've accomplished each year, and it makes wiring out a SNAP since no foliage gets in the way in that time.

It is probably my favorite species, even beyond satsuki, which I adore....

Larch is definitely one of our favorite species.... we have more larch than any other species in our collection and I expect that number to continue to grow.... they are a constant source of joy and are full of endless possibilities!

Victrinia

This is a beautiful tree. Are those green lacewing eggs standing up around the base of the tree?

Although I haven't been involved in bonsai for too long, sometimes I see an exceptional tree and it invokes a certain nostalgia that is hard for me to describe... The subtle movement it has is immensely satisfying. Really incredible.

New Pot

Hey Ms. Vic,
I noticed that you said that it's been in the pot since 2008......and a repot was goingto happen in 2013 - same pot or another one?
Cheers G

Perfect time of year

There are times of the summer when a tree is at its best. I think this picture is of that perfect time. Buds just coming out is great. Later on they always look like they need a haircut. Good work!!

One of my fav trees on bnut. Beautiful

Nice tree! It has developed nice character over the past decade.

On another note, welcome back Ms.Vic! Long time no see. It's nice to see some of the old guard to return to the forum! 🙂

Nice to see an old favorite back on here! Thanks for sharing.

Still need to come see you and Eric's garden, daughter lives in Manette but we're always busy it seems.
