image.jpeg So, work for me slows down just a bit this time of year, but my kid's extracurricular activities explode as well. Bringing a tree to work will sometimes allow me to work a tree that, unfortunately, won't get touched when I'm actually at home. So, I'm just wondering if anybody else capitalizes on periodic downtime while on the job.

While I can't work on any trees here, I do spend an inordinate amount of time on-line reading about a myriad of things.
I've been here for almost 24 years. Started at the very bottom, but kept plugging away, doing whatever I could to increase my knowledge.
Now I am in a supervisory position!:eek::confused::(:oops::rolleyes: :D:D:D

Never had a job that has downtime, pretty nice way to spend it for those who do though.
The clinic I work at is usually balls to the wall all spring and summer, and it slows a bit...just a bit... in the fall. More often then not, though, when I bring in a tree, the schedule has filled up and the work gets to wait for another day.

I was in my last job too till the company shut down, made too much money and the owner retired!
That just made work busier though, when labour was taken care of had to think and plan logistics.

If you've got a safe place for a tree, just in case of free time, sweet! Coworkers must enjoy seeing them eh?

I haven't brought a tree to work yet, but perhaps in the future. Is this the first time, you've shared this pine on Bnut? I'm guessing the pine has a healthy pulse.

Yes, fenced in area in the back of the clinic. The folks who work here always enjoy it when I bring in a tree. More often then not, they'll make a comment about how I like to torture trees or ask my why the tree looks so "sick"...that was in regards to a shimpaku literati with a lot of deadwood. They're always smiling when they say it, though.

Nice to be able to do that! I work at home and have my wintering tropicals in my office, but I don't really work on trees during "working hours". I do, however, check in on the forums in between tasks, when programs are running, etc.

The tree is the subject of this thread, http://bonsainut.com/index.php?threads/japanese-black-pine-slant-style.6842/which will hopefully get updated when I've finished this years work. It's actually funny reading the first page of comments.

Was there supposed to be a link there?

When I first started, I was working at this building, I kept a couple lil seedlings on the roof!

Thought about bringing my Mugo here for the full sun on the roof, but the schedule isn't regular enough.

When my water commission buddy gets his supervisor position, I may get in there and have 80% of the day to work on stuff!

He's built model airplanes, Fishtanks, watched everything h ing in Netflix, etc,,

Oh yeah!

All my posts on this site come from my desk at the salon haha. Fortunately I'm child free so all my time is mine at home

It's a must for me! I actually have two beds at work with trees in training.
I get a lot of questions and strange looks about them:)

Man! Real nice!

The needles are reduced on the lower?

I'd love to see that thread updated too!

This 3 year difference is great, very nice to see!

I hope work stays slow for ya!

I'm sure the more experienced know this. But if you bring a tree in from out of winter storage, say to your office, to work on, remember that just a night or two of warm temperatures can begin the "waking up process" of a dormant tree. Cold tolerance will diminish, a week of warm nights and many species will have lost much cold tolerance. So with winter work on dormant trees, always get them back into the cold as quickly as possible. Even if you don't finish the days work, put them back in the cold for the night to keep them fully winter hardy. I'm in zone 5 and growing many species that are barely hardy here. This is not as big an issue for more southern growers rasing species that are hardy further north than they are. Just a thought to help.

My boss refused to let anyones hobbies migrate to work. While we had occasional slow times, the was always something needing to be caught up on. He even barked if he caught you web surfing. So I retired. Problem solved. ;)

My boss is 500 miles away. I kind of like it that way :)

I will say one thing, I waste less "working time" now than I did when I worked on site. So it's a better deal for me and for them.
