Japanese Maple material

I was looking at this tree from the swindon winter show and a wild tree i snapped in the park the other day....then a virtual of how my maple could look without the middle trunk....just some thoughts, i think this is the best direction

both the sub trunks in the show maple and wild tree are of a similar height.....but it seems to work

I guess to make that work you need to get some back budding further down the trunks, add some interest and character in the long slender trunks, at the moment they are quite feature less?

yes basically do the cuts and let grow.there is back budding occurring already because it was hard pruned a few weeks ago.

i can see how the tree has budded out from all the shoulders i was mindful of with the initial hard pruning carried out a few weeks ago.die back will only occur on the stumps i left and not past the shoulders.
these buds will have a head start now, rather than if i had waited until the summer. i have options a plenty and soon i can go in and make more precise cuts.

the 'money' cuts

@ConorDash you asked about back budding needed for my vision for this material, this is a good start

Nice! I couldn't believe how much my big one I collected last year budded out, and that was after removing 95% of the foliage a week or two after it leafed out along with a huge portion of the roots. Seems they're pretty damn resilient!
Some good movement on those trunks, looks like a good vision for this one.

this is one of two acer sango kaku in my collection, this one will be available

in an informal broom form, a young tree, still needs a little structural work, but the basics are in place

J maple after some extension work on the shari and change of position in pot. basically two fronts, nebari is quite decent on the clean side. the first shari work was done a few weeks ago, if you look closely you can see where part of the cambium has began to roll in. no paste was used.once the tree adjusts, this deadwood can be hollowed out even further, maybe next season if i have it that long

some work on this shohin, cleaning out some of the rotten wood and exposing more of the wound turning it into a hollow feature. this has a few decent sides and a very good base20190701_205532.jpg20190701_205548.jpg

Nice Katsura!

yeh quite nice shape. it sold very quickly. the nebari wasnt great. if i'd have kept it, it would of needed cutting back hard and regrowing all over because there was literally no interior growth.

nice red maple bought n sold.not sure on variety.it could be beni maiko according to previous owner but he wasnt certain
