So I had one of these when I first got into bonsai five or six years back and ended up losing it in a flood. I've been trying to find another for quite a while and the Bonsai House in Westland, Mi. called me and hooked me up yesterday. I know this species might not be for everyone, but the bark is a ghostly white, and when they are healthy the leaves are bright green on top and an yellow/orange on the bottom, with a soft velvety texture. Lots of contrasts. The figs are cool too.

There is a Bonsai shop in Westland?

What's it called?

Buckshot Bonsai Soil?

You're thinking of the bonsai shop in WestWORLD, where the trees are actually robots. This one is run by a sweet older lady and her husband. I'm at least 70% sure they're not cybernetic.

AKA the Mistletoe fig, I consider this to be a most attractive fig. It is also one of the more difficult to bonsai. I am working on two of them now but have nothing to show as I got them 2 months ago.

I've never grown them but I'm intrigued by the species. What makes them difficult?

Large leaves and course straight growth. Nothing that can't be overcome, its just that many ficus lend themselves more to bonsai. The figs they produce are beautiful and I am looking forward to getting some growth on mine.

It's still growing and healthy. I thin it out once in a while, but I suspect the trunk will thicken pretty slowly, and with the size and shape of the leaves, ramification will be a challenge. That being said, it really is a cool plant. Most of us have one or two specimens that we keep around just cause we enjoy them, even though we know deep down that they're not ever going to be much of a bonsai. This one is mine. Thanks for asking about it:)

Glad to hear you're still keeping it. Can we see a recent pic?
