Meanwhile back to the fact of Climate Change, and Global Warming.

Fact 97 % of all scientists believe in the reality of Climate Change. This is not some tiny number of conspiracy theorists, this is millions of educated people doing science, which is based of repeatable experimental results and repeatable observations, 97% of scientists believe that Global Warming is a fact. There is no real debate. The 3% are mostly people with economic agendas trying to make money before their particular industry has to change to less polluting methods.

Here is a video I stumbled across, Relatively recent, July 2020, as opposed to the National Geographic video which was nearly 20 years old.

2 languages I have no idea of what they are before Polish, THEN Spanish?

Good guess.

Then, (American) English, simplified Chinese, and probably Hindi.

No Russian or German though, while there must be some in the US. And no Italian ? Because it's a beautiful language, una bellissima linga. Are you a-talking to me ?

As far as I know, the USA has no "official language". At the time of Independence, some even suggested German as the first language of the Republic, as a sign of getting rid of the domination of the English.

That's another cultural difference between us : since the French Revolution, French has been the official language, so when you can vote, it means you're French, and if you're French, you can understand and speak French. My grandparents hardly speak French, even after over 40 years in the country because they had lived all their life in a mining community where most people would speak Polish. Then, some Italians came, then some Algerians, intil the mines closed.

We're also "a nation of immigrants", but our centralized vision of the nation (which I don't fully agree with) has been the cement of our country, especially through language even if, in our small old country, a lot of people can speak Alsatian in Alsace (a German Dialect, actually several), Basque, Breton, etc. There are also Polish, Turkish, North-African, African, Vietnamese, Laotian etc. associations where people can keep their traditions and religions : but at home.

But these considerations are a bit off-topic. Yet, it's hard to speak about climate change without getting "political". I think that Leo in Illinois is right :

The article below has links to the original sources, and most important, the references to the various studies that the information was developed from.

Those who do not know the history, are doomed to repeat the failures. @sorce - did you know there is NO OFFICIAL LANGUAGE BY LAW for the United States?

Once again, Leo is right. I posted my message before reading his valuable contribution to the (off-topic) debate.

My stance on the topic...

Whether or not humans are causing climate change, why is it a bad thing to pursue a cleaner environment? Im not in favor of overarching government regulations to force the issue, but if we fostered a sentiment of actually caring about the natural world and natural beauty, there would be no reason to have this discussion.

Besides, China and India are the two biggest polluters on this planet... I havent seen any serious proposals on how to reign them in on the issue.

@AlainK , the only link youve shared in 8 pages of posts to support your argument is a music video and a 15yr old national geographic clip. Youre not doing much to win me over to your side of the argument.

These are the only other linked articles of merit in this thread, all of which I will be reading the next few days:

Go back to where the consumers are. They are key to change (besides policies). Guess a hefty import fee for products not produced under specific environmental cirteria might make them change. Then again. that might also come to show why things are cheap right now.

Hi,

This "15yr old national geographic clip" is totally relevant.

It's a very simple, educational video that states facts, not the fekniouz half-wits (the supporters of "Big Lyer") can swallow.

All right, you probably get information from different sources tahn those I trust.

I prefer the kind of very ethical, non-partisan media like the BBC, or in France "Le Monde" : they have a history of honour, not of stinking scoops fed by a community of cretins supporting a crook.

Another point of view, which goes much further than your little selmf :

Just read it : it is not so difficult to understand.

Oh, OK, CJ is not burning, so you don't give a damn. I understand the kind of person you are. Not worth much.

The original quote is "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." By George Santyana, 1905. It is one of my very favorite historical quotes. It has been paraphrased by no fewer than half a dozen scholars which has made the original source obscure.
Other than that this entire thread is pretty ridiculous. Admittedly, I did not read it all word for word, nor do I wish to.

1. What the hell is a selmf?
2. I dont believe any of the sources the others have listed in this thread as evidence to support their positions are not trustworthy... prove they arent trustworthy, then?
3. Just because you dont "trust" something doesnt remove it's actual validity.
4. I will read the bbc article, of course. Ill also do my fact checking of sources and such.
5. What is CJ and how do you know who I am? I simply pointed out that you have done very little to support your positions in this thread. Ill watch the nat geo video later when Im not at work.

Isn't this the whole reason the US was pulled from the Paris agreement... the US must change all our energy practices but those countries, oh they'll think about it, maybe get around to it when or if they feel like it... any sort of change in regulations for Power plants in the US involves a shit ton of paperwork hoops to jump through, money, man power, and resources so it is no small task, and one would expect at least minimal reciprocation from co signers..

A typo : "your little self". Prttty ovfbiuyos, nô ?

Corrected version :

"Another point of view, which goes much further than your little self"

Either you have some mental disabling syndrom that prevents you to see what's true, the real world, or are so stupid, or mentally limited to be a soft mind to be misinformed.

3. Just because you dont "trust" something doesnt remove it's actual validity.

Facts.
Facts don't lie. Some who are the emperors of lies can say "FAKE NEWS"

Imbeciles believe it. No, not all of them are imbeciles : they are accomplices, which is worse.

Alain, you might be the absolute worst cheerleader for your own ideas that Ive ever had contact with.

I asked you for some supporting documentation in the thread you started because, unlike you seem to believe, i am open minded and genuinely interested in hard data.

As far as attacking my intellect, that's a laughable method to criticise someone who is actively asking you to win me over to your side of the argument. Maybe its your poor reading of english...

Also, @AlainK you never responded to #4 and #5! I feel ripped off!

I did.

Not only did I "respond", but I read the articles I suggested. Have you ? And if you have, did you understand ?

I am... let's say perplexed, to read that you haven't and yet "contradict" my arguments by saying that you haven't read or viewed anything that you can argue about. Do you realize how stup... I mean surrealistic this is ? Well, no, I don't think that's your problem.

Truth is not your problem : as long as bullshit can pass for what's right if it serves your petty interests in the short term (and believe me, in the not-so long term, you'll get fucked. I mean do you pay more, or less than $750 taxes a year? 😄 )

Some people are just like a sort of al-qaida of a different colour, different but all the same. As if self-destruction was the key to paradise.

Ignorance is strength.

Och... You made me angry, I should calm down. Like the French proverb goes "You can cut you donkey's ears, you'll never make it a race horse".

To cool off, the story of a man, and a fly that gets out of jail :

Please, show me where you responded to my questions. Any of them, really, with something other than a poorly articulated attack at me personally?

I did read the bbc article you posted including one of the scholarly studies that they used as source material, as well as two of the others that others have linked. I have more than nothing to do in a day, you know. As far as the bbc article. I completely agree with it - warming global temperatures are making wildfires and weather more dangerous and commonplace. The source linked in the first or second paragraph takes it for granted that climate change is human-caused. I don't know if humans are causing climate change, but I agree with the rest of what they are saying about the results of the warming earth.

So in essence, you linked me to an article which I agree with, and would have always agreed with, even if I don't necessarily know if humans are causing climate change - which is exactly what I originally stated.

So once again, please link me to an article that proves that the climate change is caused by humans, not that the we are experiencing a changing climate.

A lot of what I take issue with is simply that you resort to the same personal attacks that all political extremists take. I am a registered independent, have voted for candidates of three parties here in the US over the past several elections, and generally view myself as a moderate. You seem to assume that I am some right-wing nutcase, which isn't the truth. To compare me to al-qaeda is absurd. Who have I killed this past year? How many terrorist atrocities have I committed in my life? What groups of people am I waging jihad against?

I don't see what my taxes have to do with global warming. Me and my wife are both at the top end of the tax spectrum here in the US so absolutely I pay more than 750 in taxes each year. Do you think I want to pay MORE? I love the poorly worded journalism regarding Trump's 750$ taxes... those were what his businesses paid in taxes. They all lost money over the past 10 years so he wrote off the losses, the same thing which almost every business in the US will do this year. Let me know when you show me what he paid in personal income taxes.

Ignorance is Strength?? That must be some weird Orwellian logic. I wouldn't put too much weight on it as a parable.

Well, "once again" the 15, or even 20-yr-old NatGeo video is still relevant.

It explains very well how things work.

I don't see what my taxes have to do with global warming.

I do, and it goes beyond "global warming", it must be because of my education.

I was told from an early age to share what I have with others who don't have as much as I have, and we didn't have much at that time in my family. There was this family down the road, and in the last days of the month, there was no butter on the bread because my mother gave them what was left so they could feed their kids.

Stale bread in half milk and water, with some sugar on it, that was great.

those were what his businesses paid in taxes. They all lost money over the past 10 years so he wrote off the losses, the same thing which almost every business in the US will do this year. Let me know when you show me what he paid in personal income taxes.

I'm always stupefied, saddened when I see how belittled people can excuse, or even praise their masters who f... frerm them. Accepted slavery. Thank you master. To me it stinks like a dead cat on a path in a wet november night. Disgusting.
