That is one great tree! I briefly brought this type of bonsai culture up in a previous thread and.... well.... " slapped up side the head" is what I remember. Anyway, I appreciate the history of this tree. I have several trees in my collection that were started from cuttings and have been...
I don't know if Bill Valivanis has a lot of collected trees, but I know from watching his youtube videos that several of his trees are from cutting or seedlings 30-40 years old now. I am not trying to send a message, but I find Bill's trees much more enjoyable to view and to learn the history...
Does anyone know why Jason G has not up dated his blog in the past couple of years? I have not seen him on the site either. He has some really nice material and thought he was in the bonsai business with growing fields.
Are those some type of white pine? The trunks look fairly thin. If you plan to dig them up, I would wait until spring - just when the candles start to push. I would try to get as much of the rootball as you can and transfer into very well draining soil, mostly inorganic.
Nice tree Peterh! I find it interesting that the tree is only 14years old and looks so mature! Good job! Do you have any photos showing the progression of this tree over the past 14 years?

I know a guy here in Nebraska that keeps all of his trees in a portable greenhouse all winter long. I also know some people that use a space heater in there outdoor portable greenhouse that goes on when it drops below a certain temp. It seems to work for them. Your trees including junipers do...
Hi amcoffeegirl, I lived in Iowa (West Central) for 15 years and now in eastern Nebraska. I have several junipers and other bonsai and all do well over the winter. I do keep mine in an attached garage. Do you have an attached garage? I must say that I have a Dawn Redwood grown from a...
Klytus, I am talking about windmills that cost millions of dollar to build and install and maintain. The ones in the backyards are probably several thousand to buy and install. Maybe a good option if you have several thousand dollars your wanting to spend for temp. power. Natural gas is a...
Klytus, We have all kinds of those in Iowa - there called windmills. Word on the street is they cost more to operate then the money there are suppose to save. There is no way to store the energy. When the wind blows you either use it or loose it.
I bought some japanese maple cuttings from Bill about five years ago and they are doing quite will. Bill, hope you have some more apricot cuttings next year, I'd love to have some too!

Hi ghues,
When you prune your larch, how do you know where to locate the internodes. In other words, if you wanted to prune back to one or two internodes, how do you know where the internode is since they are not real clear.

Next step is to fertilize and let it grow. I'll put it in a new pot next year and work on the deadwood some other time. Harry, hope you don't mind if I used your before photos. My before photos did not turn out the best - too bright, yours were better.
