    crab in distress

unsure why this crab's leaves are turning brown. It did fine last year in the nursery container. I transplanted it this year, around mid May. it hasn't grown much since and the leaves have begun turning brown and drying up. Is this a sign of root rot? I'm unfamiliar with crab. any thoughts?

    Dwarf JWP

I saw a Dwarf japanese white pine at my local nursery and I'm curious to know if you guys think DJWP are any good for bonsai. I've read that dwarf varieties in general are bad for bonsai. wasn't cheap either, $149 for a plant 18" high.

    regimented vs chaotic designs

Curious to know how many people consider the bonsai process as a means to a final design that is then maintained from then on, or if people regularly restyle and rethink their trees. I ask because a lot of what I've been reading online and in books seems to lean towards designing a tree...

    DIY screens

I picked up some 1/4"x1/4" metal screening and two pine panks for some quick sifting frames. One screen gets the 1/4"x1/4"mesh, the other screen gets two layers of mesh, offset, so the final size is 1/8"x1/8". I wove an "x" through the two screens to keep them pressed together. Not...

    throwing some pots

I plan on throwing my own pots on the wheel, looking for some suggestions and/or things to look out for. I'm using a cone 6 clay, is that appropriate for winter climates? secondly, I was thinking about the technique one might use to make an oval pot on the wheel and the only thing I can...
