Dealing with large scars - willow leaf ficus

Just picked up this tree yesterday, it has, this huge bulbous scar, in a place that it’s not good. Will the willow leaf ficus respond to simply carving it down and not allowing new growth to form there, which would obviously lead to the same thing happening again?

Need advice on the direction to take this bald cypress

I am at a complete loss on what to do with the cypress. It was collected a year and a half ago, and obviously hasn’t done great since then. The one side of the tree is dead. No buds have formed on that side since collection. Pretty much the one area on the one side with the multiple shoots seems...

Chunky willow leaf ficus - hidden treasure

I was picking at a nursery liquidation sale and saw a little pot overrun with weeds. Out of the pot were sticking a handful of Willow leaf shoots. I dug around and it felt like there was a pretty big base underneath everything. This is the result, and pretty much exactly what I was hoping for...

Anyone working with the Portulacaria afra ‘LILLIPUT' cultivar? Apparently the leaves are even smaller and they are rapid growers. Hoping to find some cuttings at least. Apparently they can be found at Home Depot, but I’ve had no luck as of yet.

    Brazilian Rain Tree Grafting

wow... lots of BRT posts lately, they are quickly becoming one of my favorite species to work with. Does anyone have experience thread grafting BRT's? I have one that desperately needs a branch where there is currently none. There was a branch that wasn't ideal, but I broke it off when I was...

"killed" a bald cypress by overfeeding?

So I got a new bald cypress last week. I went through my regularly scheduled feeding earlier in the week and now the cypress looks dead. All the foliage (once green and lush) is now brown and dry. I used miracle grow liquid at double strength... did I over feed and kill it? All my other trees...

    High-tech tree identification

For The High-Tech Naturalist: LeafSnap Identifies Leaves Using Your iPhone’s Camera, an android app coming soon as well. Pretty cool, and would be helpful when out scouring garden centers of collecting in the wild. Seems to be limited in the numbers of trees right now, but an expanded library...

Introduction and a question (or 2)

Hello, first post here and basically new to bonsai. I've had some failed and misguided attempts keeping trees in the past, they've either perished at my hands or I've donated them to someone else with more time. Now I feel that I'm at a point that I can make it finally work. This weekend I...
