    Tree identification

Here are some pictures of what I have done with this elm. I found cover by an outside bush with shade, dug a hole, placed the tree in, and covered with dirt and leaves. Let me know if this works.

The leaves were very similar also. It was a small tree though with really long branches and not much height. Was growing almost like what you expect to see a weed look like right by a sidewalk. They were definitely darker. A little darker than this:

    Tree identification

Whoops. I need to read more carefully. Thanks. So I should just find a nice shaded spot for it to remain until it gets a trunk as thick as I am looking for. (I am wanting a really thick trunk as those look really nice). We can have some cold winters here in Kansas. Should I look for a spot...

    Tree identification

It was a quite unusual location as the nearest tree that has similar leaf structure is 50ft away. It has leaves that are about the same size as the leaves from the mid to the top of the tree, but not as big as the leaves near the trunk of the seedling.

The trunk diameter is .5 inch. So I should cut the trunk off at 3.5 inches after planting it outdoors?

    Tree identification

Another question I have is if I should keep it inside or outside. Also since it already grew in an existing pot outdoors (naturally I might add) should I leave it be or should I repot it?

    Tree identification

Does it have good future potential or do I just have a new potted plant? :D Edit: Hit the google, and found out that chinese elms are great.

    Tree identification

Been watching this tree grow in a pot that I had left outside with potting soil. At first when I saw it growing I did not know if it was a tree or not, but I am pretty sure now that it is. It just started getting freezing outside, and the leaves are yellowing so I am not sure if it...

    Is this a ficus?

Tying plant to the boot with wires

Thanks I will remember this for the future, but I have not planted them in a tray. I was unsure of what size the trees should be to do this so I settled for a pot in order to I get them out of the cheap plastic containers they were in...

Tying plant to the boot with wires

Is it worth disturbing the trees to wire it? Or should I just keep a close eye on it, and keep it out of the wind?

Greetings from Chicago need help with Chinese elm.

I am still new to bonsai, but if I know anything about chinese elms it is that they are survivors of about everything you can throw at them. I have seen naturally growing chinese elms that spread and spread and spread (they are hard to stop even when using chemicals!). So as far as the...

Tying plant to the boot with wires

I re-potted my trees without wiring them to the screen (that sits at the bottom of the pot near the single drainage hole). Will there be any negative affects because of this?

    Is this a ficus?

I was unsure with what type of tree I was dealing with, and wanted to make sure before re-potting to have the best soil environment for it :D It is now at home, and happy re-potted. When I re-potted it sadly it barely had any root growth (or it had recently been re-potted and cut back) so I...

    Repotted Fukien Tea Tree

Thanks for the tip on the inorganic. Breaking marble chips up is not my idea of fun :D

    Repotted Fukien Tea Tree

I am not sure if the soil mix I put together is appropriate for them as I have read they like a mix of organic, and inorganic soil. The soil I put together drains from the top in 30sec so I am sure it is ok. I put mesh at the bottom of the new pot with a layer of small stone marble pieces. I...

    Repotted Fukien Tea Tree

I just repotted my new Fukien Tea tree, but I decided not to trim the roots. When I took it out of the old plastic walmart pot the root system had not reached the bottom of that pot quite yet, and there was just a few strands of roots that were very long. The root ball was quite small as...

    Tree identification please. :)

Just wondering if anyone could assist me in figuring out what tree this is. It is a mallsai I picked up at walmart, and of course they do not label it with any kind of identification as to what the tree is. Thanks! http://www.freeimagehosting.net/vbr94 http://www.freeimagehosting.net/3j7nm...

Infestation of my Juniper?? Yipe! Help?

That is interesting :) I found a dead lady bug in my pot one day, and was wondering why it was in there. I treated it with respect, and put it somewhere safe where it could rest :-P I am glad that the ladybug decided my tree was a good place to host the next generation :-D
