    Switchback Trunk Juni

LOL, I haven't been on this forum too much the last few years but I am enjoying seeing these old threads. I still have it. It's a little bushy and had some issues but should be back in shape in about a year.

    12/31/23 Contest Ending Reminder

Looking forward to seeing everyone's trees. So cool of Walter Pall to Judge. I decided to enter one of my smallest pines in the batch which will be a shohin (I suspect many). I just wired it tonight and it is cute haha. It will not win but the contest has been good for me. I still have 25...

    Thomas 22 JBP Entry Thread

The good news is I have 20 strong Japanese and some are just starting to grow fast now and trunks are starting to thicken but don't really want to chop these for the contest. I will be entering one of my smaller ones. Here are a few randon pics. The one in the bonsai pot is the one I will enter...

Nice job developing this tree, even if you got a little help. Turned out better than I thought possible.

    A date with a 15$ old gold.

I'm a fan of old golds. Bought a 5 gallon about 5 years ago from a local landscape nursery and it just got its first pot a few months ago. Hope you don't mind if I share a pic.

    Big Twisted California Juniper

The pot is 24 x24in. About 40" from soil to top of foliage plus another 20" to top of deadwood. It's a little big to show or even move for that matter but I'm going to style when ready.

    Big Twisted California Juniper

Thanks for asking. It's doing just fine. I repotted into a homemade temp pot last spring and I made a concrete pedestal for it.

    First Tree Juniper Progression

Update: Had this tree as long as I have been doing bonsai. Slowly working towards the vert. I need the front drop branch to grow much longer. Not entirely happy with it now but getting there. I finally changed the angle as suggested in previous post. First pic 11 years ago. .

"Oldest" bonsai? or a load of BS...just wondering

This Bonsai Empire article has it as the oldest along with 2nd thru 5th. All really nice trees. https://www.bonsaiempire.com/inspiration/top-10/oldest-bonsai-trees

    Beanwagons Nana #1

Great progression on this tree. I feel like this tree is really close to getting to that money shot. No hurry but you need complete the details like dead wood work, fine wiring, mabye a bit smaller pot. I actually have trouble myself completing all the details and getting good pots for my own...

Help identifying what kind of Juniper mine would be

I have several junipers I don't even know what kind they are. I would guess yours is a Procumbens Nana.

    Ficus leaves turning brown

The tree bounced back quickly. Just wanted to update for other people that may have a similar problem. I didn't do anything except careful watering. Not sure watering was the problem but that is my best guess.

Not as big as I would have liked but all mine are doing fine. Just repotted all of them. Lots of work and soil. Also did a little wiring.

Wood pots, Are they only valid for prebonsai? Your opinion

Thanks, I think the stain was called "Penofin for hardwood". I consider this a nice training pot and not really a finish pot but better to look at this for the next 3-4 years than just a 2x10 box.

Wood pots, Are they only valid for prebonsai? Your opinion

I made a wood pot just a few months ago. I decided to make one because x-large pots are hard to find and expensive. I had some extra IPE lumber from a job so it just cost me 2 days of labor.

    2021 Collected Utahs

Nice trees. That last one is killer. I got two Utah's myself a few weeks ago. A week before all the snow hit so I feel lucky about that.

No cold temps here yet. My research tells me maybe too much water but not to confident on that diagnosis. Hopefully someone else will chime in will a remedy. Thanks Nova.
