    California Juniper Reinvented

I got around to wiring this tree last weekend. Pretty much happy with it but the foliage needs to tighten up and lime suffer dead wood. I think by next fall I can really have this tree looking good. And a new pot some day also.

    California Juniper Reinvented

I'm still really undecided and I want to get this right the first time so I made a few rudimentary verts. Which one do you like better? Apex going right or apex going left. I got a few left votes and I thank @Ruddigger and @Wulfskaar for their input but I am kind of leaning for it to go right...

    Semi cascade kishu

Front 1. You can see the movement in the trunk better. I think you should remove most of the foliage on the right side of the tree. Love the semi cascade left side of the tree.

    California Juniper Reinvented

This tree is getting ready for some styling. Not sure exactly what to do with the apex. Should it move left or right? Leave it tall or compact it? Comments welcome.

This tree got a little unruly for a couple years but its back on the right path. First pick from May this year. Second pick as of today. It filled in a bit but needs refinement.

The 2026 Seven-year Shimpaku Juniper contest

I'm interested. I have some 1 year old cuttings already. Just to clarify, do the trees need to be verified shimpaku variety of Juniper Chineses or are other variants acceptable. Honestly, not sure what I have but it does resemble Chinese Juniper.

Ficus species from San Cristobal, Chiapas, Mexico

Thanks for sharing. It will be interesting to see if this ficus variety take off. Gives people living in the north a chance to enjoy ficus. I love my ficus bonsai here in southern California but my climate is opposite as far as rain is concerned. Dry all year then rains Jan, Feb, and March...

    California Juniper First Styling

I see you dug up this thread so I will update. I was pretty happy with the tree but it got fungus last year and is currently a mess. It's healthy again so I get to start over with the styling again. Actually looking forward to see how it turns out. No pics of current state at the moment but here...

    Switchback Trunk Juni

LOL, I haven't been on this forum too much the last few years but I am enjoying seeing these old threads. I still have it. It's a little bushy and had some issues but should be back in shape in about a year.

    12/31/23 Contest Ending Reminder

Looking forward to seeing everyone's trees. So cool of Walter Pall to Judge. I decided to enter one of my smallest pines in the batch which will be a shohin (I suspect many). I just wired it tonight and it is cute haha. It will not win but the contest has been good for me. I still have 25...

I will be entering one of my smaller ones. Here are a few randon pics. The one in the bonsai pot is the one I will enter...

    A date with a 15$ old gold.

I'm a fan of old golds. Bought a 5 gallon about 5 years ago from a local landscape nursery and it just got its first pot a few months ago. Hope you don't mind if I share a pic.

    Big Twisted California Juniper

The pot is 24 x24in. About 40" from soil to top of foliage plus another 20" to top of deadwood. It's a little big to show or even move for that matter but I'm going to style when ready.

    Big Twisted California Juniper

Thanks for asking. It's doing just fine. I repotted into a homemade temp pot last spring and I made a concrete pedestal for it.

    First Tree Juniper Progression

Update: Had this tree as long as I have been doing bonsai. Slowly working towards the vert. I need the front drop branch to grow much longer. Not entirely happy with it now but getting there. I finally changed the angle as suggested in previous post. First pic 11 years ago. .
