    Soilless Media..?

So much negativity. The reason many people leave this forum. Unfortunate.

    Soilless Media..?

It's ok. Keeps the forum going and spurs interest with newcomers. Searching isn't interacting with fellow bonsai people. :)

    Large BC #1

I was told to trunk chop them flat for later carving and to develop taper rather than at an angle like with other trees. I have forgotten the rationale but the owner of bonsai south is a member here and a BC expert and will hopefully chime in. He provided that advice for me last year when I...

    Satsuki Azalea sources?

Thanks. I have in $200 one from the but was looking at the $500 range. I'm going to rendevous for the first time so may get one then. Does anyone know if trees are marked up or down or the same as usual at Brussels during rendevous ?

    wakaebisu satsuki

I bought one of these as well. Mine's actually in a heavy peat moss mixture and not their standard soil. I was told they were repotted within the last year so I'm leaving mine alone for a few years. I had the same inclination though when I got mine to put it in some kanuma. I'm not even sure...

    Satsuki Azalea sources?

Any ideas? I have tried multiple times to contact the North American Satsuki Bonsai Center with no luck. They do have nice Satsuki azaleas listed for sale but not sure how to purchase them or to obtain an account to log in. Any other places selling decent satsuki? Thanks!

    JRP $15 nursery stock

Thanks everyone. I didn't even notice the varigated needles as I was too busy looking at branches and trunk line. I never even knew a varigated pine existed. Live and learn. Only $15 wasted. :).

    JRP $15 nursery stock

Thanks everyone. Adair, you are referring to this specific variety of JRP? What varietie(s) are commonly used for bonsai? I didn't even notice the banded needles. I was in a hurry and excited about the $15 'deal'. Thanks.

    JRP $15 nursery stock

So I got this pinus densiflora 'Oculis Draconis' "Dragons Eye" at Home Depot for $15 due to some broken branches toward the top. Is this specific variety of JRP even suitable for bonsai? Wasn't sure what variety most JRP bonsai are Any ideas? I'm in way over my head with pines still but...

    These taste like $&@#

True :) My bullmastiff is excited about them. I'm finally building some nice bonsai benches high enough to keep her out of my trees to be able to use organic fertilizer again. So far she likes Green Dream and these fert cakes the best but will eat Biogold if she has to. Apparently she has...

    These taste like $&@#

Making fert cakes this year before the flies are out. One day of sunny high temps then unanticipated cloudiness and cooler weather today so I had to improvise to finish drying them. Apparently I'm the only one in the household that thought it was a good idea....

    Chinese Wisteria...now what

Sounds like a good idea but I don't want wisteria taking over my yard! Invasive as crazy

    Chinese Wisteria...now what

So in a weak moment of stupidity at 1am after some good Scotch I bought this Chinese Wisteria and now have buyer's remorse. I (slip) repotted it today but do not know what to do with it now. Any ideas? Or, I'll gladly sell it.

    Hard cut backs

Nice. Reminds me of a story of when I bought a 5ft Bougie at the local nursery. Got to my car and chopped it down to 8" and was throwing foliage all over the place like Edward Scissorhands. I thought she and the others in the parking lot were going to crap themselves. The look on their faces was...
