    Yes, I have to keep my big hemlock in the shade as well. I think this new tree will be OK if I give it the same treatment as the big one. Sometimes in hybridization certain characteristics are "hybridized out" and you just don't know which ones until it's too late. Thanks for your help!

    I have been given an Abbott's Pygmy Canadian Hemlock, about 4" tall. I am in zone 7. How much problem do you think I'll have keeping it alive? Any thoughts on care and culture? I undersatnd this is a zone 4 tree. I have an eastern hemlock that has survived well for 3 years in this zone.
