So around 3 weeks ago my wife and I went to a bonsai nursery. Everything looked in really bad shape. But my wife really wanted this pomegranate. It was in a high cascade style pot. The soil was hard, dry and had a lot of ants. I felt bad for the tree and thought I could give him new life. Took him home and put him in a bigger pot with potting soil. I tried to shake of the old soil. Watered him and just left him alone. After researching it would have been better to put him in bosai soil. Yesterday was the second time I watered him since the soil felt damp. The temps here are 80/55.His leaves are turning yellower everyday and some have fallen off. I'm assuming its because of the cold nights. Or possibly because I'm slowly killing him with the potting soil. Any pointers on what to do with this tree would be appreciated.

Hi. If I understand correctly, you have watered it twice in 3 weeks ? If yes, that could be the problem. Underwatering. Pomegranate loves sun,so it could also be your climate. Could be the start of dormancy ?

Yes. I watered it 2 times in 3 weeks. The potting soil seems to retain water too good. Soil is damp not soggy. Checked it daily. I figured since it came from soil with no water. A little would go a long way. I was also thinking dormancy. But its so hot here in CA. Not sure if they do go dormant.

The inner ball could be dry from the hard soil. Immerse the pot into.
A tub of water.bubbles will appear . Leave it ther until it ceases. Place it then in a semi-shade spot for a few weeks. There are all manner of additives you could mix in the water. To aid the process. Not sure what you can use over there. I used willow water ,asprin and superthrive(about it's viability there are big debates)
I had success with sick/stressed trees using it.
Hope it helps
