Curious how you'll manage a subtropical plant.

The one has a nice penjing flavor to it. I imagine you have an indoor overwintering setup.

Yes I do have indoor lighting for my trees already. I have spoke to a few others in Missouri who bring them in for the cold months and they do fine so I’m going to give it a shot.
I will of course post updates as I go.

First one arrived today. Much better in person than in the photos.

Repotted my first premna today. I will just let it grow now.
I think my other trees are jealous of this pot. A little late in the repotting season for this tree but it came to me already out of the pot from Puerto Rico. So I see no harm in switching pots now.29AE268E-410A-4F96-9252-704FC170E7A4.jpeg1D8D552D-C741-4C8A-9638-EBD37E6C5488.jpeg6F166468-7CD3-4203-8466-1D24B6F57F9A.jpeg

After looking at the pics I potted a little higher than I thought I was. I might go back and fix that. :(

Another item that has made a WORLD of difference that I always tell people about- propagation mats! keeps the toes warm and helps keep localized heat. Really helps with my buttonwoods and other intolerant species. If you aren't already using them...

Thank you- I have not used them yet but I know if I have a tree that is in trouble I would do that.

I fixed it so it’s not too high.
Todd Schlafer said when repotting take your time.
I don’t know why I don’t listen.
Now I will do it.BC0C8764-BFE9-4F86-A7BF-5EA0F842BD60.jpeg5EA3F3E1-73D8-4FF3-931E-048AB5D5DB5A.jpeg2FF2DA4A-01AF-404A-B43E-586E508FB06D.jpeg

Just curious how your Premna have fared now that it's almost a year later - especially for overwintering?

One of my Ficus died over this past winter, I have limited indoor space for winters, but I'm looking at a possible replacement and have been considering Premna.

Hello
This particular plant did not survive the fall.
I do still have 2 premna that did over winter indoors with my ficus. All of my plants had a hard winter.
I have a short time until they will all go outside.
I will update with many pics as they begin to get worked on and recovery. Thanks

The Schley’s plant did fine over the winter. It will be much happier to get some sunshine.
Because I moved to a new location last September I overwintered in the basement and I think it was a little cooler than they liked.
Including my ficus.
I will want to begin styling this summer.
I can say that premna really like to grow they have not stopped growing. They did lose a bit of interior growth though.

Well I went ahead and repotted both this morning.
I removed the large barrel branch last year. I haven’t decided on and actual design choice yet. I will let them grow and do no other major work this year.
the pots were completely full of large circling roots and fine feeders.
I may have removed too much??? I did leave a lot of fine roots in there though. Crossing fingers.

the fact that they are still alive is encouraging. The leaves are large now because they have not seen the sun this year. They will reduce well now. And I will see lots of growth in the next few months.
