2015/2016 All inclusive Workshops

On Saturday October 10th 2015 at 9am we will hold a bring your own tree, or purchase one here, all day deadwood workshop. From creating new jins, shari's or hollow trunks, to refining existing deadwood to maintaining, and treating old deadwood we will spend the day discussing, creating and treating deadwood. Students should be sure their tree or trees are a suitable candidate for deadwood feature's. Various carving methods will be explained using a variety of carving tools both hand and powered. Methods of treating new and old deadwood as well as preserving rotting wood will also be among the topics touched on. Students should bring any carving tools they have. A limited amount of tools both hand and powered will be available for everyone to share. Limited to 5 participants . Cost is $150.00

On Saturday November 14th 2015 at 9am we will hold a "squished" Juniper workshop. Using 2-1 gallon sized Kishu Shimpaku students will learn the technique to create yamadori style junipers. Includes 2-1 gallon Kishu Shimpaku, wire, raffia, soil and training pot. This is a fun little workshop that turns out some very unique little trees. Limited to 10 participants. Cost is $ 80.00

On Saturday January 9th 2016 at 9 am using 5-6 year old pre-trained Hackberries with excellent branching and ramification we will cover deciduous tree refinement and transplanting from training pot to bonsai pot, resulting in trees that can be ready for show in a short period of time. Includes 9-10 year old Pre-trained Hackberry in training pot, wire, soil and appropriate bonsai pot . Limited to 8 participants, cost is only $120.00.

On Saturday February 13th at 9am using 7-10 year old 5 gallon sized San Jose Junipers each student will be guided through the process of finding and styling the bonsai within. These trees will end up in a variety of styles many with deadwood features. Includes 5 gallon Prostrata Juniper, wire, soil and plastic training pot. Maximum 10 participants. Cost is only 100.00

On Saturday March 12th at 9am using 40+ year old collected Boxwoods each student will be guided through the process of finding and bringing out the bonsai within each tree. This will be an exciting workshop that will showcase the many qualities of old Boxwood materials in a variety of styles. Includes a 40+ year old established in a pot Boxwood, wire, use of tools, etc. Limited to 8 participants. Cost is only $100.00

On Saturday April 9th at 9am Weeping style tamarisk workshop. Using 10-12 year old partially trained tamarisk each person will be guided through the steps to create a weeping style bonsai with some deadwood features as well. The contrast between the delicate foliage and flowers to the deadwood is beautiful. Tamarisk are ideal for the weeping style. These will be extremely nice trees at the end of the day.Includes 10-12 year old partially trained tamarisk in training pot, wire and use of tools . Limited to 8 participants. Cost is 120.00

On Saturday May 14th at 9am using 5 gallon Narrow leaf Ficus we will go through the basics of styling and potting into a training pot one of the favorite Ficus for bonsai. Most trees will be in the banyan or umbrella shaped styles. Includes 5 gallon Ficus nerifola, wire, soil, and plastic training pot. Maximum 10 participants. Cost is only 90.00
