It was great meeting you too, Danny, and really the beer was plenty and actually not required for the vist (it was delicious, though), getting to meet another nutter and the great conversation was reward enough. I also hate we did not get our picture together, and, I wish I would have "sucked in my gut" for the ones you took, the corona virus shutdown really took a toll, lol.
Haha! It may not have looked it, but I certainly packed a few on myself. Plus, your being too hard on yourself, and those monster trees of yours make you look tiny!

Welp. Returned last night at midnight after multiple delays at the airport. Was supposed to get home at 9:00, didn’t get home till 12. 😣. To add insult to injury my son puked twice on the first flight but was a total trooper. Here he was pre puke. I won’t show pics after he was hurling like mad. Poor guy.

In other unfortunate news. 104 degree daily temps and my wife’s current PA school surgery rotation limited the times and spacing of watering my trees she could perform. I lost 3 shohin size trees for sure. They were new so not huge losses, but my Arizona ash group and Siberian elm twin trunk which are both multiple years in really took a hit. She watered as often as possible with her schedule and feels really awful. I really need to get a watering system so I don’t have to put this burden on people especially my wife. She’s still a rockstar though.

On a bright note, I was able to fly back with the Dave Lowman pottery from Dasu bonsai my mom had bought me a few years ago. Rather than ship them I packed them in a bag for the flight.

Also. Crape myrtle needs to be used way more than it is for Bonsai. I know it’s used a decent amount but it’s bark, leaf reduction and fall color are spectacular and the way trunks and roots fuse should be any enthusiast wet dream. Here is just one of a million examples I found while down south.

Sorry to hear of the watering issue. I set up a watering system a couple years ago and it probably saved my marriage.
Def a bummer and something I’ve been putting off for too long. Jon (mellow mullet) had a pretty sweet watering system that was inspiring also.

She felt so awful about it. I certainly wasn’t going to ask her to water before she went to work at 4am. That almost certainly would have resulted in an argument. The fact that she helped me out at all though makes me grateful.

For me, it was more about us being able to go places together for more than a day in the summer. Before I put in my little system, I was tied to the trees.

And you had an awesome trip with your son (except for the puking part).

We're going on vacation in a couple of weeks and my son is in charge of watering. He did OK last year, not so great a few years ago. I am a bit nervous.

It’s the dice we roll I suppose. While I am a bit bummed over some of the dried up trees, it’s of my own doing. I knew I needed to get a watering system in place. With as crazy as her schedule is it’s unfair to ask her to bend over backwards for my hobby, when she’s already bent over backwards for everything else!
