Air layer fail? or about to shoot roots

You tell me. Any chance of this making roots? I think it's a fail...

It’s not a fail until the layer dies. Make sure it hasn’t bridged then recoat in hormone and give it more time.

Thanks all. It def hasn't bridged and is still plenty alive. I was just curious if you can tell if roots are gonna shoot from the callous based on the looks of it.

Oh well, like all things bonsai, just have to be patient.

One might be. I am never able to tell. Sometimes you turn around and it has roots. And I have one which has been on for over a year and still no game.

fwiw, I just checked on a Styrax air layer that ended up looking like that. I cut back almost but not quite all of the callus and re-buried it. I'll post some pictures when I get home
