Got these 4” potted Atlantic White Cedar (Chamaecypraris Thyoides) from my go to native nursery. They have been in these pots for atleast 3 years. I plan on planting in a training forest tray a slab to recreate a native forest in PA/ NJ where they grow wild. Unfortunately in PA they were harvested back in the day but they are making a resurgence in bogs in Northern PA. I counted 13 to use, gonna be a fun forest planting, going to put in ground cover moss, flowers, cranberry bushes and ferns as well to replicate a swamp land they’d grow in . I love natives. That makes 5 Forest planting projects for next year all on stone or combination of stone and container.

Built a forest slab with a nice stone I picked up last year. Drilled holes in it , used my fishing anchor technique .. I did 8 in case my design changed slightly but I like the end result. Coming out of winter blush ,
Used a muck wall with pumice ground layer then mostly akadama. Used sphagnum as a top dressing , will have to get a better photo tomorrow. 9 trees total , Atlantic white cedar like moist soil… so to also build more retention I planted aster and oak grass to bolster the muck walls.. will probably need more sphagnum.

I trimmed a few of the lower branches off.. this is just gonna be a ram rod straight forest composition over time .. I’m interested to see if these can look like Hinoki cypress over time.. because the foliage is perfect.. just needs to be kept inside … I was pinching the leaves not cutting

Great look so far! The stone is working out nicely... Is the moss holding in the water?

Quite nice indeed! I enjoyed scrolling through the evolution of this forest. Very pretty. What did you plant at the forest edge on the left and in the background?
